About

Here you will find everything you need to know about what your child is doing in music at Hollister Elementary this year.

My name is Lynn Rutz, and I'm the music teacher.  I taught elementary music for several years in British Columbia, Canada, both in the sparsely populated northern part as well as the very congested Lower Mainland before moving to the US and raising a couple of children to the ripe age of 9 and 12.  Now that they're a bit older, it's time to get back to teaching a bit.  I spent time in many classrooms in the area as a substitute last year, and I am convinced there's something about the Idaho air and water that produces some of the best kids I've ever met.

Hollister reminds me a lot of the school that I went to elementary in, in very rural, rugged, northern BC.  It was a two room schoolhouse.  Grades 1-3 in one room, 4-6 in another, and then--much like your children--we bussed into town for grade 7 and upwards.  Being in Hollister is like being home, and I'm thrilled to be here.

We have lots of fun instruments to explore, movement to do, games to play, and dances to learn, not to mention recorder and band for the older ones.  I hope you visit this page often to catch up with the musical happenings at your school.

Please take note of the sidebar.  You'll find a list of notices that I've sent so if something doesn't get home and your child, like mine,  says, "OH NO!  I can't find my paper!" you can easily print out a copy and get it in without any trouble.  All of the Recorder Karate music is there, as well as Tech Teacher, which is a site with wackloads of online music games the kids can play that will help them with rhythm and notation.

I will be at the school Tuesday and Thursday mornings, but chances are if I'm not called in as a substitute elsewhere, I'll be hanging at the school prepping and such, so please stop by!  I'd love to meet you!
